Nigeria will launch cryptocurrency “ENaira” CBDC on Monday.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will launch the digital currency “eNaira” CBDC on Monday, according to Bloomberg.

eNaira, which aims to promote and complement the use of cash rather than replace it. It will make financial transactions easier and smoother everywhere,” CBN said.

The launch was originally scheduled for Oct. 1 to Oct. 4, but was postponed. To mark the 61st anniversary of Nigeria’s independence on Oct. 1

Nigeria’s financial authorities are grappling with the growing use of digital currency in the country. Nigeria banned crypto transactions within the banking sector in February and four months later dH announced plans to launch eNaira.

eNaira will come with a wallet from CBN, which users can link to their bank account or use it to make payments, according to CBN.
