Nigeria logically eliminates a disappointing Cameroon!

Continuation of the round of 16 this Saturday with the first clash between Nigeria and Cameroon. After Angola’s overwhelming victory against Namibia (3-0), this new match between two giants of the continent had to keep all its promises. On the one hand, Victor Osimhen’s Super Eagles who seemed to be gaining momentum in this African Cup. On the other, Cameroon, miraculously out of the group stage, and who wanted to prove that their qualification was not a fluke. On paper, the two teams presented themselves with fairly attractive numbers.

At the start of the match in favor of Nigeria, the Cameroonians seemed incapable of getting the ball out and calming the opposing domination. Starting once again in place of Onana, Ondoa did not exude great serenity. Two outings were missing which gave Ajayi a first goal. Fortunately for the Cameroonian goalkeeper the goal was canceled for an offside position. But the Super Eagles, far above with a formidable Osimhen, logically ended up opening the scoring. After an incredible loss of ball from Oumar Gonzalez, the Napoli striker served Lookman who, with great success, opened the scoring. His shot was poorly repelled by Ondoa then by Wooh (1-0, 36th).

Cameroon disappoints again

An advantage that Nigeria retained until the break. Returning from the locker room, the Indomitable Lions tried to come back with better intentions. And if this was characterized by more technical mastery in the first quarter of an hour, Rigobert Song’s men fell back into their mistakes afterwards. Victor Osimhen, untenable on the attacking front, gave the Cameroonian defense a nightmare. For their part, the Cameroonians were incapable of being dangerous with a multitude of technical errors in the last gesture.

Faced with the impotence of his team, Rigobert Song tried everything by bringing in his star Vincent Aboubakar, just back from injury and with only one training session in his legs. But that was not enough. Nigeria took the break just before added time. It was once again Lookman, who was also at the start of the action, who scored a double by perfectly taking a cross (2-0, 90th). Cameroon collapsed and never came back in this meeting. Nigeria qualifies for the quarter-finals and will face Angola. Cameroon, disappointing throughout the CAN, failed to improve and is already leaving the competition.
