Nicole Kidman causes a stir on the cover of Vanity Fair. The 54-year-old is pictured in a schoolgirl look.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman (54) graces the Hollywood issue that Vanity Fair magazine publishes each year to celebrate the nominees at the Oscars. For her role as Lucille Ball in the biopic “Being the Ricardos” (2021, Amazon Prime Video) she has been nominated for a golden boy for the fifth time. She won Best Actress for “The Hours: From Eternity to Eternity” (2003).

On the magazine cover, the 54-year-old wears a gray and white two-piece suit – bustier and skirt – plus knee socks and college shoes. Her outfit is reminiscent of a particularly skimpy version of a schoolgirl uniform. And that’s exactly what pisses off the fans. Under the post of the cover on the magazine’s Instagram page The followers overturn themselves with criticism.

Was she forced into the outfit?

“Okay, but who put her in this outfit?” You can read there, among other things. “Strange and outdated,” reads another comment. Another follower is more specific: “Theoretically it’s not old-fashioned since it’s new from Miu Miu and every blogger wears it as the latest trend, but she looks strange in it and it doesn’t fit her style at all”. “Let them keep their class and dignity,” demands another user. “The styling makes you feel like she’s uncomfortable with her age,” summarizes another user.

Among other things, it is discussed whether the actress was allowed to influence the styling, for which the British stylist Katie Grand is responsible. While some deny this, this user writes: “I don’t know what happened on this shoot either, but I doubt that someone of her size will be forced to wear anything for a photo shoot.”

But the overall staging of the cover by the Italian artist duo Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari was not well received either. Too much Photoshop, according to fans. “It looks like they put their head on a teenager’s body,” reads the review. What the artists actually wanted to illustrate reads in the text for the Instagram post: “After 40 years of acting in more than 80 film and television projects, Kidman says she approaches every role as if she were fresh out of acting class.”

The Oscars will be held on March 27th at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
