While Nicolas Sarkozy denounced “all-out harassment” against him, the national financial prosecutor, Jean-François Bohnert, rejected on Wednesday the “unfounded” attacks targeting his prosecution. “We are here to help deliver justice, our compass is the application of the law. Period,” said Jean-François Bohnert at the microphone of RTL.
“It is out of the question, and I say this solemnly, that any judicial authority whatsoever, and in particular the PNF, [se paie] such and such a person,” he insisted. “We experience these attacks all the more badly” because they are unfounded.

Nicolas Sarkozy, who is currently promoting his latest book The time of fightingwill be judged in November on appeal in the Bygmalion case, then at first instance in early 2025 on the heart of suspicions of Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign. He could also soon be indicted in a new case, suspected of having endorsed fraudulent maneuvers undertaken by several protagonists to exonerate him in the so-called Libyan financing affair.
“We know that the big strategy is to attack the accuser,” noted Jean-François Bohnert. During the Bismuth trial, also known as that of the wiretapping affair for which Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to prison (he appealed), “we first tried the PNF obviously to eclipse the trial of the main defendant”, he underlined, while his prosecution strives “to seek the judicial truth”.
