Nice, Cannes, Hyères… The Côte d’Azur partly plunged into darkness this Wednesday evening

In Nice, Cannes and Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes, but also near Hyères and Draguignan, notably in the Var department, entire neighborhoods were randomly plunged into darkness this Wednesday evening due to a “technical incident” on a high voltage line, according to Electricity Transport Network (RTE).

Around 7:45 p.m., an “overload” forced the manager “to make cuts,” a spokesperson told 20 minutes. “The homes began to be replenished around 8:38 p.m. and will be gradually,” she also indicated.

“Numerous calls for blocked elevators”

In Nice, according to the mayor (Horizons) Christian Estrosi, the cuts affected “at least 130,000 people”. According to several elected officials and official municipal accounts, nearly 300,000 households were affected in total. RTE was not immediately able to confirm these figures.

This incident is in any case not without consequences. In the Alpes-Maritimes, “the power outage led to numerous calls for blocked elevators,” indicated the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) 06.
