Bang just before the Super Bowl!
The NFL is coming to Germany next season. According to BILD information, the locations should already be fixed. The league will be in Munich in November, in Frankfurt in 2023 and then again in Munich in 2024.
In 2025 another change of location is to take place. Then the NFL will play another game in Frankfurt.
This step is to be officially announced at a press conference by NFL boss Roger Goodell on Wednesday evening German time. In addition to the two cities, Düsseldorf had also tried to get regular main round games in the National Football League.
Reason for the NFL export to Germany: The league wants to conquer new markets.
The league had already revealed in December that the Kansas City Chiefs, the New England Patriots, Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers had secured the league’s marketing rights for Germany. Behind this are the NFL plans to increase the global growth of its own brand as part of the so-called “International Home Marketing Area” (IHMA).
Germany is one of only three countries in Europe for which NFL teams have been granted marketing rights. Six teams will be allowed to be active in Great Britain in the future, two teams in Spain. Mexico had the greatest interest in foreign rights – nine teams (including the Chiefs) won the bid.
Munich was chosen as the location because of the marketing opportunities and the modern Allianz Arena. In addition, FC Bayern has maintained a close partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs for years with owner Clark Hunt (56), who also owns Bayern partner club FC Dallas (soccer). So there was a joint interview with Julian Nagelsmann (34) and Chiefs Coach Andy Reid (63).
The second venue will be the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. The city is also one of the most traditional football locations in Germany.
The current NFL season ends on Monday night (12:30 a.m.) with the Super Bowl in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals are playing for the championship.
