Neymar raves about PSG team-mate Marco Verratti: “He’s a genius”
With Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, Neymar has excellent players around him at PSG. But the Brazilian highlights a midfield strategist.
Star striker Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain has praised his teammate Marco Verratti in the highest tones. “He’s a genius,” the Brazilian told the Italian daily La Repubblica. Verratti is already in his tenth season with the French and has been an undisputed regular player in defensive midfield for years.
In 2017, Neymar moved from FC Barcelona to PSG – and had to revise his opinion about Verratti, whom he had already valued very much. “I knew Verratti was an excellent player, but I didn’t realize he was that amazing,” he said.
Neymar: Verratti comparable to Xavi and Iniesta
The Brazilian then compared the 2020 European champions with two of the greats he had by his side in his career. “He’s one of the best midfielders I’ve ever played with, alongside Xavi and Iniesta,” he said, referring to the two big stars who had shaped the game at Barcelona for many years. Neymar is not alone with this opinion: Lionel Messi also recently extensively praised Verratti.
However, the 28-year-old Italian is currently injured: he will be out with a hip injury, probably by the end of November.
