The Magpies urgently need to stabilize their defenses. Sven Botman from Lille may come for this purpose.

The relegation-threatened English first division club Newcastle United is aiming for January a transfer of the Dutch U21 international Sven Botman from Ligue 1 champions OSC Lille on. That reports the Guardian. Accordingly, a commitment of the central defender enjoys “priority” in order to stabilize the shaky defense.

Botman is considered a great talent. In 2020 he came to Lille for eight million euros from the reserve of Ajax Amsterdam. He developed splendidly with the Great Danes and surprisingly won the championship with them in the summer.

Newcastle United: Botman is under contract in Lille until 2025

The 21-year-old’s contract runs until 2025. He is also said to be a candidate at AC Milan, where they are looking for a replacement for Simon Kjaer, who is badly injured in his knee. According to Guardian the equivalent of more than 30 million euros would be needed to set off Botman in winter. Lille could even demand a transfer fee of the equivalent of 47 million euros for the regular player (15 appearances this season).

Money, the Newcastle after the takeover by a Saudi Arabian state fund a few months ago undoubtedly did. However, the traditional club is in crisis and is currently in a relegation zone in the Premier League. Also because the defense is weak and swallowed most of the league with 34 goals conceded.

Newcastle’s new coach Eddie Howe not only want to sign Botman, but also bring attacker Jesse Lingard from Manchester United. The wing racer has no contract next summer, but is also being hunted by West Ham.
