Newcastle bagged the first transfer since the Saudi takeover: As expected, right-back Kieran Trippier comes to the Magpies.

Premier League club Newcastle United have signed England international Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. The clubs officially announced this on Friday. The right-back, who played five games for the Three Lions at the last European Championship, costs just under 15 million euros in transfer fees, according to media reports, and signed for two and a half years.

Trippier will be returning to his homeland according to information from GOAL and SPOX sweetened with an annual salary of nine million euros. The 31-year-old is Newcastle’s first transfer since it was taken over by a Saudi Arabian state fund last fall.

Newcastle: Trippier’s Atletico contract ran until 2023

Trippier, who once played for Tottenham Hotspur, among others, is returning to the island after two and a half years. His contract with Atletico ran until 2023. According to Spanish media reports, he wanted to move to England for family reasons.

His new club has big problems in the Premier League and is deep in the relegation battle. The enormous financial resources of the new club owners cause violent transfer speculation. Further notable commitments are expected in the coming weeks.
