A new trailer for the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is here. It shows the power struggles in House Targaryen.

The new Trailer for “House of the Dragon” is there. The HBO series can be seen on Sky in parallel with the US broadcast from August 22nd. Based on George RR Martin’s (73) novel “Fire & Blood”, the TV show tells the story of the house of Targaryen, 200 years before “Game of Thrones”. In the heyday of the Targaryen Empire, civil war erupts over the succession to the throne.

“Men will sooner reduce the empire to rubble than see a woman ascend the Iron Throne,” says Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best, 50) in the new trailer. The dragon rider and wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favored her cousin Viserys. She addresses the words to a still child princess Rhaenyra Targaryen – she is the firstborn child of the king. Emma D’Arcy (29) plays the older Rhaenyra on the series.

intrigues at court

King Viserys (Paddy Considine, 48) sits on the Iron Throne and has named Rhaenyra as his successor. The lords of Westeros, including House Stark and House Baratheon, have sworn allegiance to Viserys and her, as the clip also reveals. But schemes are being spun to change that.

“We’re playing an ugly game,” says Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans, 54), the king’s right-hand man, to his daughter Alicent (Emily Carey, 19). “You have the determination to win it.” Alicent Hightower grew up in the Red Keep, close to the king and his inner circle; she possesses both courtly grace and keen political acumen.

Matt Smith is also there

“History doesn’t remember the blood, it remembers the names,” explains Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith, 39), King Viserys’ younger brother, in the new trailer. He is considered another potential heir to the throne. Rhaenyra’s uncle is “a warrior and dragon rider like no other, and possesses the true blood of the dragon,” it says of the character. The clip also features gory scenes, dragons and dragon eggs.

Also present in “House of the Dragon” is Steve Toussaint (57) as Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Sea Serpent”. The most celebrated nautical adventurer in Westeros history built his home into a mighty seat wealthier even than the Lannisters and possessing the world’s largest fleet.

Sonoya Mizuno (35) is Mysaria, who came to Westeros with nothing and has been sold so many times that she can’t remember. She nevertheless rises to become an ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the possible heir to the throne.

Another leading role is played by Fabien Frankel (28) as Ser Criston Cole. Cole is not entitled to any land or title, all he has to his name is his honor and his supernatural skills with the sword.

Another contender for the Iron Throne is Aegon Targaryen, played by Tom Glynn-Carney (27). He is the firstborn son of King Visery, who will stand against Rhaenyra.
