New Space Initiative – Space Council Demanded – Economy

Around 50 companies from aerospace, industry and agriculture are demanding a reorganization of German space travel. “Europe is in danger of falling behind in a key area of the future,” says a 32-page paper by the BDI initiative New Space. The central demand is a national space council of the Federal Government chaired by the Federal Chancellery to discuss social, economic and security-related topics of space travel – also with regard to autonomous driving. “The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine has shown once again how essential and existential sovereign access to space and the use of satellites and the data and services they generate are.” Start-ups should be given more weight over New Space departments in the Federal Ministry of Economics and DLR. The initiative is also committed to European entry into astronautics.
