For the TV series “Gaslit” about the Watergate scandal, US actor Sean Penn has to change his looks enormously. Film woman Julia Roberts is also going through a transformation.
Oscar winner Sean Penn (61, “Mystic River”, “Milk”) is hardly recognizable in the published first trailer for the TV series “Gaslit”.
Bald and with a double chin, he plays former Attorney General and close Nixon confidante John Mitchell in the series about the Watergate scandal. With a blond hairdo, Julia Roberts (“Pretty Woman”) transforms into his eccentric wife Martha Mitchell, who publicly chatted about illegal activities in the White House and thus made herself extremely unpopular in government circles.
The drama series about the Watergate scandal that brought down then-US President Richard Nixon in 1974 will premiere on April 24 on US broadcaster Starz. The producers describe “Gaslit” as a thriller about love and betrayal. She comes from the southern states and speaks her mind openly, explains whistleblower Martha Mitchell in the suspenseful clip. Dan Stevens (39, “I am your person”) strikes as an unscrupulous government lawyer.
The template is the podcast “Slow Burn” about various characters who were involved in the Watergate scandal in the 1970s. Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”) is on board as a producer.
