“Big Brother” is starting another “Normalo” season. Which former candidates were able to use the show for their careers?

The most famous TV container is opening its doors again: 16 candidates want to be followed by cameras for 100 days of “Big Brother”. At the end there is a prize money of 100,000 euros. The new season of the reality format starts on Joyn from Monday (March 4th), at 8:15 p.m. Jochen Schropp (45) will present “Big Brother live – The Entry” on Sat.1. In 2020, the show, which has a successful spin-off with “Celebrity Big Brother”, was held for the last time with a ““Normalo” season on air. Especially in its early days, the format could be a career springboard for the candidates after the broadcast.

The idea for the format comes from the production company Endemol Entertainment, which presented the show for the first time in the Netherlands in 1999. The show, in which participants voluntarily allow themselves to be locked in a television studio and fight for a prize, started in Germany in 2000.

Jürgen Milski and Zlatko Trpkovski

The first season of “Big Brother” caused a stir. In addition to the winner John Milz, who left the container with 250,000 DM, there were also particularly… second place Jürgen Milski (60) and the participants Zlatko Trpkovski (48), Sabrina Lange (56) and Alex Jolig (61) became very famous at the end of the show. In addition to the title song “Leb” by the boy band Die 3. Generation, Milski and Trpkovski were remembered for their single “Big Brother”, which reached number one in the charts.

Milski used the show as a career springboard and is still a successful singer and presenter today. After “Big Brother” he hardly missed any TV show and took part in, among other things, the jungle camp, “Let’s Dance” and the “Battle of the Reality Stars”. In 2023 he celebrated his container comeback on “Celebrity Big Brother” and came eleventh. Trpkovski previously made a brief comeback in the celebrity spin-off in 2019. But then he disappeared from the public scene again.

Sabrina Lange and Alex Jolig

The “BB” fourth place Sabrina Lange After she moved out, she also released music and went on tour with her own comedy program. In 2019, the former roofer appeared again on reality TV and took part in “Summer House of the Stars”. With her partner Thomas Graf von Luxburg she took third place.

The sixth place finisher of the first season, Alex Jolig, drew attention to himself with an affair in the TV container. After moving out, the then restaurateur landed in the charts with the single “I just want you” and worked as an actor. He also made the headlines again with his love life: son Paul (22) emerged from a six-month liaison with Jenny Elvers (51). Together with Elvers, he took part in the reality show “Prominent Separate” in 2022 and was friendly with her. With his wife Britt, whom he married in 2012, Jolig, who also works as an artist, runs a real estate company for luxury properties in Mallorca, where the couple mainly lives today.

Hanka Rackwitz and Kader Loth

In the second season, the winner Alida-Nadine Kurras (46) and her colleagues such as Hanka Rackwitz (born 1969), Christian Möllmann (51) and Harry Schmidt (64) were also able to use the container fame for themselves, albeit for a limited time . After her victory, Kurras hosted “9Live” and the ProSieben program “Das Geständnis”. In the ninth season of “Big Brother” she worked as a field reporter. In recent years things have been quiet around the “BB” winner, who is the mother of a daughter and works for a teleshopping channel. In May 2023, she explained in an RTL interview that she had withdrawn due to her now deceased father’s cancer: “In moments like this you learn that other things are more important than hopping around in the media.”

Hanka Rackwitz left the container after 56 days in season two. She was then seen in the VOX documentary “rent, buy, live” as a real estate agent and in the jungle camp. In the eleventh season of “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!” she took second place. In TV interviews, she repeatedly opened up about her anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders. She has withdrawn from show business for several years.

2004 could Squad Loth (51) pave her way to a TV career in season five. After participating in “Big Brother,” numerous television jobs followed. Shortly after the container, she took part in the reality format “Die Alm” (2004) and was named “Alm Queen” after three weeks. The model had the same concept, just a different backdrop, the following year with the ProSieben show “Die Burg”. In 2013 she became a candidate in the reality show “Wild Girls – Through Africa in High Heels” and in 2017 she left the RTL jungle camp in fifth place. The reverse record is still held today by the fifth season Winner Sascha Sirtl (46) lived in the container for 365 days for one million euros. The TV star, whose twin brother is “Köln 50667” star Jay Sirtl, moved into the house again in the ninth “BB” season and took part in the “Battle of the Reality Stars” in 2023 and took second place.

In subsequent seasons, only a few candidates were able to use the format for a career in the public eye. Cedric Beidinger (30), who won the show in 2020, was probably able to make the most of the opportunity. After that was the fitness model appeared on TV as Claudia Obert’s (62) assistant and took part in shows such as “#CoupleChallenge”, “Ex On The Beach” and “Forsthaus Rampensau”.

Over the years, the boundaries between the regular “Big Brother” and the celebrity version have become increasingly blurred. Patricia Blanco (53) and Iris Klein (56) have already moved into both “BB” houses.
