The face of FC Augsburg was Stefan Reuter. The 1990 world champion is retiring as managing director – but not completely. Reuter’s new role is said to be part of a realignment.

Stefan Reuter (56) is retiring as managing director at FC Augsburg, but will continue to be available to the Bundesliga club as an advisor. The Augsburgers announced this on Tuesday. The “Welt”, “Bild” and the “Augsburger Allgemeine” initially reported on it.

“We have had many discussions in the last few weeks and months to set the course for a realignment and create improved structures for the FCA. After almost eleven intensive years, mastering the last transfer window and training sports director Marinko Jurendic, this is for “Now is exactly the right time for me to pass on responsibilities,” explained Reuter. “I will continue to provide advice to the club and those responsible and will continue to support the desired realignment in this role.”

Reuter still has a long-term contract in Augsburg, reportedly until the summer of 2026. The first division club only expanded its position last summer and brought in a sports director in Jurendic (45) from FC Zurich.

Reuter has been with FC Augsburg since 2012

“Even if Stefan Reuter is now withdrawing from day-to-day business, he will remain closely connected to the club and provide advice,” explained President Markus Krapf. “Stefan Reuter is and remains one of the faces of FC Augsburg and will make an important contribution to the future development of the club in his new role.”

According to the information, Reuter, world champion in 1990, will continue to be in regular contact with the sporting management and management of FC Augsburg in his new role and will support them.

Reuter has been working in Augsburg since December 2012 and had his tenth birthday last winter. Augsburg have been first class ever since, and they even played in the Europa League in the 2015/16 season.
