The car world is looking to Shanghai for the most important car show in recent years. Not so with Renault, who introduce the refreshed Clio on a small scale away from real events.
The Renault Clio is one of the best-selling cars in Europe and, by the way, the best-selling French vehicle of all time with 16 million units. A facelift should ensure that the success continues, giving the little Frenchman a few years of life. “Now the new Clio takes the next step with its new design and an even sharper front end. The E-Tech full hybrid powertrain under the hood is pleasant to drive and very economical. With this efficient technology, we support our customers in many countries in the energy transition,” explains Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault brand.
Visually, a lot has happened, especially in the face of the 4.05 meter long Clio, with the light signature and radiator grille being completely redesigned. The rear has been slightly sharpened with modified airflow, apron and clear glass lights. In the interior, the natural material leather has been completely banned and, depending on the equipment line, replaced by sustainably manufactured plastics. Optionally, there are instrument clusters with screen diagonals of seven and ten inches behind the wheel. The central touch screen for navigation, sound system and convenience controls is also available in two screen sizes of seven and 9.3 inches.
The engine portfolio includes five drives; including for the first time the well-known 145 hp hybrid without a plug-in function. The top model combines two electric motors (36 kW and an 18 kW starter generator) with the well-known 1.6 liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 69 kW / 94 hp as well as an automatic transmission and a small 1.2 kWh battery. The basic model is powered by a 65 hp one-liter three-cylinder. Above that are turbo engines with 90 and 100 hp. The standard consumption is between 4.1 and 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers. Renault still does not offer a purely electric version for the Clio. Orders for the refreshed Renault Clio with its up to 20 driver assistance systems will start in June.
