The 718 combustion engine series, consisting of the Porsche Boxster and Cayman, thundered down the home stretch with a lot of roar. Three decades after the unveiling of the Boxster concept study, the mid-engine series crowned itself with the 718 Spyder RS.

Soon they only run electrically, but for the grand finale there is another extremely powerful second helping from Zuffenhausen. With the 718 Spyder RS, Porsche is presenting the absolute top model in the Boxster series – the most powerful Boxster of all time offers the identical drive package of the Cayman GT4 RS with uncompromising openness. The four-liter, six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine from the Porsche 911 R delivers a spectacular 368 kW / 500 hp, which only has to move an unladen weight of 1.4 tons when driving. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission ensures that the Spyder RS sprints from a standing start in 3.4 seconds and runs at speeds of up to 308 km/h. The standard consumption: 13.0 liters Super per 100 kilometers.

At 1,410 kilograms, the Spyder RS weighs an impressive 40 kilograms less than the normal 718 Spyder with PDK and is therefore another five kilograms lighter than the closed 718 Cayman GT4 RS. “The 718 Spyder RS takes driving pleasure in an open vehicle to a new level,” says Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Vehicles. “The combination of our unmistakable GT3 engine, the short transmission, compact dimensions, low weight, the racing chassis optimized for country roads and maximum openness offers an extremely emotional and unfiltered driving experience.”

Last but not least, the reduced weight is made possible by the only single-layer hood, which, including the mechanics, weighs just 18.3 kilograms; 7.6 kg less than the 718 Spyder and 16.5 kg less than the 718 Boxster. Anyone who only wants to do tours in bright sunshine and puts the roof in the garage saves a further eight kilograms. Like the drive, the chassis of the open-top joker also comes from the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS and offers Active Suspension Management with a particularly sporty setup and a lowering of 30 millimeters, torque vectoring with a mechanical rear axle differential lock, chassis bearings with ball joints and 20-inch aluminum -Forged wheels. Ride height, camber, track and stabilizer can be variably adjusted. Compared to the closed Cayman GT4 RS, the spring and damper rates have been reduced in order to achieve a more cabrio-typical set-up.

Inside there are bucket seats, which are covered with leather, as are the dashboard and panels. If the normal Spyder package is not enough, you can equip your 718 Spyder RS with the Weissach package, just like the larger models. Among other things, this is provided by the light forged magnesium wheel and the tailpipes of the sports exhaust system are made of titanium. Inside, the package features a Race-Tex covered upper part of the dashboard and customers can look forward to a special Porsche chronograph on their wrist. The Porsche 718 Spyder RS, which costs at least 155,575 euros, will be officially unveiled in June on the occasion of Porsche’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
