New pollution of rivers in Loire-Atlantique and Vendée after a large spill of fungicide

A similar accident had already occurred at the end of April, east of Loire-Atlantique. Monday, a tank carrying fungicide products overturned again on the road, causing pollution of several rivers, in Vendée and in the neighboring department of Loire-Atlantique. This timesome 2,500 liters of pesticides spilled at the height of Montaigu-Vendée into a stream, a few meters from the confluence with the Maine and the Sèvre Nantaise.

Consequences of this “accidental pollution”: a whole lot of restrictions were taken by the prefect of Vendée but also of Loire-Atlantique. As his counterpart, the latter notably decided on Wednesday to prohibit nautical activities, fishing and sampling (for the watering of animals or the irrigation of plants intended for human consumption). The measure concerns the Maine and the Sèvre Nantaise up to the confluence with the Loire (from Remouillé to Nantes) and applies until next Tuesday inclusive. Sampling and analyzes are underway to assess the level of pollution.
