New pharmacy museum in Neubiberg – district of Munich

Of

Daniela Bode, Neubiberg

While cars rush by on the nearby main street, entering the house with the green double-leaf door on Kaiserstrasse in Neubiberg gives you the impression of being in a bygone era: one wall of cupboards is filled with magnificently decorated French porcelain vessels from the 19th century, another cupboard hides them Wooden boxes with inscriptions like “Herb. Origani” or “Arsenic”. In the center of the room, on a wooden sideboard, are a 19th-century floor scale and a console with exotic exhibits such as a porcupine fish preparation. A stuffed water monitor hangs above it. Gabriele and Ulrich Mayring opened an Apothekarium here, a museum for pharmaceutical art and curiosities, with a lot of passion, a passion for collecting and specialist knowledge. Apart from a historic pharmacy in the Deutsches Museum, it is the only one in the greater Munich area, as the two explain.
