In order to reduce car traffic, the city wants to offer alternatives. There have been nine “mobility stations” with various offers such as car sharing cars or MVG rental bikes, which can be found on the mobility department’s homepage muenchenunterwegs.de/mp. On Friday, another station was opened in Knöbelstraße in Lehel, this time under the name “Mobility Point”. The principle is the same, but with Knöbelstraße the city is starting a construction program for 200 such mobility points under the new name by 2026. They are to be distributed throughout the city and all located at public transport hubs. Wherever possible, the points are also provided with permanently installed pumps, repair stations and bike racks.
On June 17, seven more will follow: on Oberanger, Georg-Freundorfer-Platz, Heimeranplatz, Westendstrasse, Falkenstrasse, Kolumbusplatz and Schlottauerstrasse. Another 60 will be added later this year.
The goal is a “unique, nationwide mobility point network,” says the mobility department. In the future, all Munich residents should be able to reach the offers within a five-minute walk of their own place of residence. The mobility points can be seen on information pillars with the “mp” logo.
The sharing vehicles can be rented via the respective providers’ apps. The Munich transport company (MVG) wants to bundle the offers in the MVGO app. The mobility points should be a supplement for the so-called last mile, i.e. the way to or from a bus stop.
Comparable offers will soon also be available in the region. Starting next year, more than 60 additional mobility points with integrated offers from the Munich Transport Association (MVV) will be created across ten municipalities in the Fürstenfeldbruck district as part of a project funded by the federal government.
