New knife attack in Germany, suspect arrested

This is the second attack in three days. Two people were stabbed with knives on Monday in the German city of Erfurt by a man who was then arrested at his home, local police said. The two passers-by, aged 45 and 68, were hospitalized and their lives are not in danger, said the police of this city of Thuringia (center).

The alleged assailant, who had managed to flee, was then arrested, also injured, in his apartment. The 32-year-old man allegedly injured himself, Erfurt police said. The motive for these attacks remains to be determined, according to the police. The suspect and his victims did not know each other. “There is no indication of a politically motivated crime,” police said.

Three dead Friday

This attack came three days after a Somali, who arrived in Germany in 2015 and suffering from mental disorders, fatally stabbed three people in the center of the Bavarian city of Würzburg on Friday, before being arrested.

In this case, investigators are trying to determine whether this attack of “incredible brutality”, according to a local elected official, was motivated by an Islamist radicalization or the psychiatric disorders of the alleged perpetrator.
