A new James Bond has been found? Puppy cake! According to the producer, work on the post-Daniel Craig era “hasn’t even started yet.”

It will probably be some time before fans know who will succeed Daniel Craig (55) as the next 007. The franchise’s producer, Barbara Broccoli (63), said in a statement published on Saturday Interview with “The Guardian” that there is “still a long way to go” until the iconic character is “reinvented for the next chapter.” She added that those in charge haven’t even begun to modernize the franchise.

“There are no more villains” – “wrong!”

Broccoli, who co-directs the series with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, 81, said it was important for the next installment to reflect the way the world has changed since Craig took on the role of James in 2006 Bond slipped out. But that’s nothing new, because 007 has been reinvented and modernized again and again over the decades, says the producer. “I remember ‘GoldenEye’ when everyone said ‘The Cold War is over, the Wall has fallen, Bond is dead, Bond is no longer needed, the whole world is at peace, and there are no more villains’ – “That was wrong,” she said.

When it came to Craig in the title role, “they wanted to focus on what a 21st-century hero would look like,” Broccoli recalls. “Daniel gave us the opportunity to explore the character’s emotional life… and the world was ready for that too,” she added. “I think these films reflect the times they’re set in and we have a long, long way to go to reinvent them for the next chapter.”

After five installments in the film series, starting with “Casino Royale,” Craig officially retired from the role following the release of “No Time to Die” in 2021.

What is the world afraid of? Who is the next Bond villain?

Last year, Broccoli told The Hollywood Reporterthat back then people were more interested in finding the next villain than thinking about who would play Bond.

“We always sit down with our writers and first think about: What is the world afraid of? We start by thinking, ‘Who is the Bond villain?’ We try to focus on that as a kind of superstory,” she explained. “And then we also want to look at Bond’s emotional life and what he’s dealing with personally that he hasn’t faced before. So he has two big themes in the films – one is the geopolitical and the other is the personal.”

Legendary Bond films since 1962
