In a garish satire on wealth and the beauty industry, director Ruben Östlund relishes the sinking of a luxury yacht. “The Passport Forger” tells the true story of the Jewish graphic artist Cioma Schönhaus.
Influencers and the Super Rich – “Triangle of Sadness”
The beauty industry refers to the area between the eyebrows and the bridge of the nose as the “triangle of sadness”. One of the protagonists in Ruben Östlund’s film “Triangle of Sadness”, the model Carl, is also recommended to have the nerve toxin Botox injected here.
Östlund’s social satire, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, tells of the world of influencers and the super-rich. It mostly takes place on a luxury yacht, where Carl (Harris Dickinson) and the influencer Yaya (Charlbi Dean, embodied by Charlbi Dean, who died unexpectedly in the summer at the age of 32) are traveling with a luridly exaggerated company of the rich. Iris Berben can also be seen in a supporting role. The 72-year-old plays a ship passenger named Therese, who has a speech disorder after a stroke. Later the unexpected happens: some ship travelers end up on an island where the hierarchy is reversed, because an employee is the only one who can catch fish, make fire and thus ensure the survival of the people.

“The Passport Forger”: The Story of a Survivor
The Jewish graphic artist Cioma Schönhaus survived the Nazi regime by forging passports for himself and others, posing as a Wehrmacht soldier on home leave, among other things. “The Passport Forger” is based on the autobiography of Schönhaus, who died in 2015 at the age of 92.
Louis Hofmann (“Dark”) plays the fun-loving survivor who fearlessly and recklessly faces the horrors of war. “He was just incredibly clever, quick-witted and extremely intelligent socially,” says Hofmann about his character. “The Passport Forger” by author and director Maggie Peren (“The Color of the Ocean”) shows the Second World War from a different perspective, but would have deserved a little more depth.
