New Google smartphones: Better camera, more photo options

Hamburg (dpa / tmn) – The new Google smartphones from the Pixel series are here. The biggest innovation is the revised cameras with improved zoom and new editing options. The Pixel 7 and larger Pixel 7 Pro will go on sale on October 13th. You can already pre-order it in the Google Store.

Both smartphones are equipped with Google’s Tensor G2 chip, and the Android 13 operating system is on board. The phones have an aluminum housing that is made “100 percent from recycled material,” Google promises. The Pixel Pro 7 has a 6.7-inch display, while the Pixel has a 6.3-inch screen.

Comparatively low prices and a watch

The flagship works with a 30x camera zoom, the smaller device with 8x zoom. One of the new features is sharpening, which removes blur and noise from blurry and old images. According to Google, machine learning is used here. With the Movie mode, “cinema-like videos with a beautiful, artistically blurred background” could be recorded. Image stabilization has also been greatly improved, according to Google.

The Google Pixel 7 costs from 649 euros, the Google Pixel 7 Pro from 899 euros. Google’s smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, is also available with a minimum price of 379 euros. It allows the integration of apps for listening to music, navigating, paying or managing smart home functions, among other things. There is a choice of three stainless steel versions in black, silver and gold, as well as different bracelets.

The watch can be linked to the Fitbit service. Google bought the fitness tracker provider in 2019. Extensive health data can be collected and evaluated or training sessions can be completed.
