New comfort functions for the search: In future, Google’s search engine will provide clickable suggestions on how users can refine their search results. The result pages can now be changed by scrolling. And the Chrome browser has a new way to search for pages in open tabs, bookmarks, and history. Most of the new functions are initially only available in the USA.
Google announced on Twitter that the so-called continuous scrolling will now also be introduced on desktop devices. Initially, it can only be used in the English language variant in the USA. With continuous scrolling, the next screen of results is automatically loaded when the bottom of the page is reached and displayed below the previous results. According to Google, this should be possible up to the sixth page of the search results. Until now, either “Next” or one of the page numbers had to be clicked at the end of the respective result pages in order to display further results. The elimination of scrolling was already introduced in autumn 2021 for searches via mobile devices.
Tips for search filters
Also available for the time being only in the USA are new buttons, give topic suggestionshow to refine an existing search with filters. Google shows the search for ideas for cooking recipes as an example. Buttons with terms then appear below the input field to further restrict the results, such as for quick or vegetarian dishes.
According to Google, it uses experience from other searches and arranges the terms accordingly. The filter function is initially only available in the English-language version in the US in the smartphone apps for iOS and Android as well as in mobile web search.
Search in tabs, bookmarks and history
Meanwhile, in the Chrome browser introduced a new shortcut for the address barto search in the browser. After entering the @ sign, buttons appear in the menu that opens, allowing you to search for specific pages in the open tabs, in the bookmarks (Bookmarks) and in the history (History).
