Elon Musk has big plans for his online platform X and is also relying on new functions.

Elon Musk is taking a step towards becoming the “app for everything” he promised with voice and video calls via his online platform X (formerly Twitter).

An early version of the function is currently available, Musk wrote on X on Wednesday. Some users in the USA had previously reported that the call option, which was announced in the summer without a specific target date, was now suddenly available.

Users can therefore choose who they want to accept video and voice calls from. These can include people you have as contacts in your address book, as well as profiles you follow on X. The third option is “verified users”. However, Musk has abolished the previous verification mechanism in which celebrities and politicians, for example, were subjected to an identity check. Instead, all paying subscription customers now get the identical-looking white check mark on a blue background, which is still familiar from the Twitter days.

Musk bought Twitter a year ago for $44 billion. He renamed the service X and announced that he would turn it into a multifunctional app for all situations. An example of such applications is WeChat in China. In the West, users instead use different apps for different tasks.
