The exoplanet 2M0437b was found with the Subaru telescope, which is located on the Hawaiian volcano Mauna Kea. Guest researcher Teruyuki Hirano discovered 2M0437b for the first time in 2018. In recent years, the researchers led by the study’s lead author, Eric Gaidos, have carefully examined the exoplanet with other telescopes.

“Observations with space telescopes like NASA’s Hubble and the upcoming James Webb space telescope could identify gases in its atmosphere and reveal whether the planet has a lunar-forming disk,” said Eric Gaidos in the university’s announcement.
