The new law applies, but the dispute will continue. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier signed the hotly debated electoral law on Thursday, which is intended to reduce the size of the Bundestag. But he doesn’t seem too happy with it. The head of state sees no legal reason not to enact the law and delay it. However, he is obviously worried about the pacifying effect of the new electoral law.
