New cars – car discounts are delayed – economy

After the semiconductor crisis is over, the discounts are only slowly coming back to the German new car market. The regular market study by the Duisburg Center Automotive Research (CAR) found that a large backlog of orders in February still allowed manufacturers to increase list prices and offer fewer discounts for new cars configured online. However, orders for new cars continued to fall significantly while production picked up, explained study leader Ferdinand Dudenhöffer. “It is therefore a question of when the discounts known from previous years will come back. Anyone looking for a new car has a good chance of negotiating better prices in a few months than they are today.” The CAR study sees the first signs of market normalization with the significant increase in self-registrations by many manufacturers and dealers. Usually these cars are marketed with individual discounts within a short period of time.
