A new “Bridget Jones” film is coming. But fans of the iconic film series sorely miss a popular character.

Around eight years after “Bridget Jones’ Baby”, a new film about the iconic character played by Renée Zellweger (54) will be released. The British production company Working Title Films officially announced this on the evening of April 9th, among other things announced on Instagram. For “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy”, in addition to leading actress Zellweger, fan favorite Hugh Grant (63) will return to once again embody womanizer Daniel Cleaver. But “Bridget Jones” fans are sorely missing another popular character.

Where is Mr Darcy?

Emma Thompson (64), who first joined the film series in “Bridget Jones’ Baby” from 2016, will also be part of the now announced fourth part. Fans of the romantic film series can also expect to see some completely new faces. Chiwetel Ejiofor (46), known from “12 Years a Slave,” and “The White Lotus” actor Leo Woodall (27) are also part of the ensemble of the upcoming film.

But one prominent name is missing from this official cast list: Oscar winner Colin Firth (63), who played Mark Darcy in all three previous “Bridget Jones” parts.

In the comments on the official announcement of the fourth “Bridget Jones” film, fans expressed their frustration. “No Mr. Darcy, no ‘Bridget Jones’!!!” it says, or: “Where is Colin Firth?”. A third person commented: “I won’t watch this movie if Mark isn’t in it,” followed by a sad emoji.

That’s why Mark Darcy is missing from “Bridget Jones 4”

Even if there is no official synopsis for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” yet, the original novel by successful author Helen Fielding (66) reveals the reason for Mark Darcy’s absence in the new film. Because in the book Bridget Jones is not only the mother of two children, but also a widow.

Her husband and the father of her children died here a few years before the action begins, while the now 51-year-old Bridget Jones meets a man twenty years her junior, who could be played in the film by new cast member Leo Woodall.

“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” is directed by Michael Morris (“To Leslie”, 50). Original author Fielding is also responsible for the script for the film. “Bridget Jones 4” is set to receive a theatrical release in Germany. In the USA, the film will be released on the streaming service Peacock in time for Valentine’s Day 2025 the industry magazine “Deadline” reports.
