Neuschwanstein Castle: Bavaria plans application for UNESCO World Heritage – Bavaria

The Free State is planning a joint World Heritage application for the famous royal palaces of Ludwig II. In Schwangau, however, some citizens are skeptical. They should soon vote on whether they want the title at all.

King Ludwig II would be in favor of that, the Bavarian Palaces and Lakes Administration is certain. “One should not disturb the idyllic solitude and the romantic nature, whose picturesque beauty is incomparably greater in winter than in summer, with railways and factories”, said the fairytale king in 1878, which according to the palace administration is proof enough that the creator of the Bavarian royal palaces would be delighted if his buildings Herrenchiemsee, Linderhof, Königshaus am Schachen and of course Neuschwanstein Castle were listed as World Heritage Sites by Unesco.
