Neuried – Würmesia cancels carnival due to Corona – district of Munich

At the proclamation of the youth prince couple in bright sunshine on 11.11. At Marienplatz, the members of the Neurieder Faschingsgesellschaft Würmesia were still full of confidence: The guard, the court ballet and the children and youth guard had been busy training for their show since the summer. The program for the new carnival season was set. The planning for the enthronement of his madness Prince Maximilian and her loveliness Princess Lisa was already in full swing. The Würmesia intended to revive some old traditions. Nothing will come of it now.

“The virus would really not have broken a spike from the crown to leave the scepter to the carnival jesters of the Würmesia,” said the president of the company, Pia Krock, humorously. “But unfortunately Corona still holds the scepter firmly in hand.” Due to the increasing incidence, the many vaccination breakthroughs and the growing number of corona sufferers, the Würmesia presidium has now decided to stop all carnival activities that have already been planned in order to be able to protect members and the public as well as possible.

“Of course we are disappointed, but we are all called upon to avoid contacts as much as possible and this is where Würmesia wants to make a contribution.” Nevertheless, she does not want to completely disappear from the scene this season either. Alternatives, presumably largely online, are already being planned, says Krock. The Würmesia does not want to let the tradition of the carnival customs die out. With Monaco Franze she says: “A little something is always possible.”

At other carnival societies, on the other hand, they are still waiting. “We are still planning,” says the second president of Unterhachinger Gleisenia, Christian Gerschkowicz. The kick-off was canceled on November 12th and hoped for the black and white ball on January 7th. “We work with the crystal ball, so to speak,” he says. One would like to decide at short notice. As an alternative, however, the Unterhachinger consider shooting at least one video with the troupe’s show dance. But even that could be difficult due to contact restrictions.

“We are currently not willing to cancel everything completely”, also announced Thomas Schweissgut, President of the Unterschleißheim-Lohhofer carnival club Weiß-Blau. Of course, a current cancellation could be budget-friendly. “You have expenses for costumes and medals, for example.” But they want to try to use them in the next season. “We stay on standby,” says Schweissgut. “Carnival lasts until March 1st, so there may still be some things possible, for example in the open air.” The carnival parade in Unterschleißheim is not planned until the end of February.
