Neuried: town center closed due to gas leakage – district of Munich

A high-pressure gas line was drilled into during construction work in Neuried late Tuesday afternoon. “Massive” gas flowed out, as Mayor Harald Zipfel (SPD) told the SZ in the evening. The fire brigade evacuated the buildings within a radius of about 100 meters, said a spokesman for the fire brigade. The entire town center around Münchner Strasse and Forstenrieder Strasse was affected. It was initially unclear how many people were affected. According to initial information, there were no injuries. The fire brigade spokesman ruled out an immediate danger for the residents. Police and fire brigade were on site with a large contingent and closed off the entire town center to traffic.

The municipal works were in action to close the leak. According to Mayor Zipfel, an emergency drilling was necessary at another line point in order to release pressure from the gas supply. However, the measure was not enough, so that a second drilling was necessary in the evening hours to avert the risk of major damage, such as an explosion, as Zipfel said. The road closures in the rush hour caused a large traffic jam. Fürstenrieder Straße, which becomes Planegger Straße beyond the town centre, leads from the A95 via Fürstenried to Planegg.
