The biotope on the bridge to the Technopark has been a nuisance for the community of Grasbrunn for years. In the most recent meeting, the municipal council decided, on the advice of the landscape conservation association, to dissolve the biotope area. The area has been regularly littered for years, and the water surface is also polluted by falling leaves and branches, according to the statement. According to the Landscape Conservation Association, keeping the biotope intact would require disproportionate effort. It would have to be constantly cleared of rubbish, leaves and branches.
The planting of reeds in the area of the slope could help; however, that would also make maintenance more difficult. The municipality also rejected the option of fenced off the area, as this measure would involve further maintenance work. The landscape conservation association also admits that the biotope is only suitable to a very limited extent for amphibians. On the one hand, this is due to the isolated location between the B 304 federal road and the Technopark. The population exchange can only take place via ponds in the private gardens of the adjacent residential area. On the other hand, the area is overshadowed by the existing trees and shrubs in summer. In the past, residents had repeatedly warned that the pond was a danger for children.
The municipality is currently looking for a compensation area for the biotope. The local branch of the Federal Nature Conservation Association has proposed another biotope between the Neukeferloh recycling center and the biotope that already exists there. However, there is no suitable land owned by the municipality in this area. The municipal areas adjacent to the recycling center are potential areas for expansion. Therefore, they are currently not available for creating a biotope. However, if the recycling center is re-planned, an area could be provided for a biotope.
