Clear ideas on the T question, but no contact yet Julian Nagelsmann: The German Football Association (DFB) is relying on precision in its search for a new national coach. “We have a clear idea and are approaching it very systematically,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf on the sidelines of the DFL gala “60 Years of the Bundesliga” on Wednesday evening in Berlin: “It has to be someone who is very focused and works directly . These are points that play a role.”

A profile was created with several candidates, a longlist and a shortlist. “It has to be someone who is assertive, who is also robust and resilient. It’s a stressful time. We don’t have that much time left until the EURO,” said Neuendorf. He still didn’t name names. “First of all, it’s important that we are clear in which direction we want to go. And then the conversations will follow automatically.”

DFB search for national coach: No contact with Nagelsmann yet

DFB vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke shook his head as to whether there had already been discussions with former Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann: “No. We’ll work out the profile first and then we’ll see.”

The DFB is looking for a successor after Hansi Flick was fired on Sunday. The association’s sports director was present at the 2-1 win in the international match against France Rudi Völler together with Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner on the bench. A “unique thing”, as Völler and the association heads emphasize.

The new national coach should be installed by the national team’s trip to the USA in October. In addition to Nagelsmann, the Dutchman Louis van Gaal, the Austrian Oliver Glasner and Turkey’s German national coach Stefan Kuntz are currently considered promising candidates. (mt/sid)
