Neubiberg – What helps with flooding – District of Munich

Neubiberg stays on the ball when it comes to flood protection. At an information event of the local CSU on the topic “Hachinger Bach – flood risk for Unterbiberg?” citizens found out what protective measures they could take themselves. You could make sure that sewer connections are laid in such a way that the water does not press into the house in the event of a flood, says Volker Höpken, CSU local association manager. Waterproof light shafts would also help. The citizens and local councilors learned all this from an employee of the Munich Water Management Office, who gave a lecture at the event on the course and history of the Hachinger Bach.

He also mentioned that the Vivamus settlement in Unterbiberg would be under water in a flood of the century. On the other hand, he mentioned the creation of retention areas, i.e. areas that fill up with water in a controlled manner, as an option for the municipality. Mayor Thomas Pardeller (CSU) pointed out at the meeting that they were aware of the importance of flood protection. However, he also described difficulties in the intermunicipal cooperation with the communities bordering the creek. The interest in protective measures in the communities on the upper reaches is less pronounced than in Neubiberg, for example. Pardeller reiterated that solutions are being explored that the community can take into their own hands and implement effectively on their own.

The Neubiberg district of Unterbiberg, like Oberhaching, Taufkirchen, Unterhaching and the city of Munich, lies on the Hachinger Bach, which is frequently flooded. For this reason, the affected communities have been trying for a long time to implement inter-communal flood management.
