A laboratory accident at the semiconductor manufacturer Infineon triggered a large-scale operation by the fire brigade and disaster control on Monday morning. In addition to the plant fire brigade, fire brigades from four municipalities were also on duty. The district’s ABC train also arrived. A glass bottle with about 100 milliliters of nitric acid broke. The acid leaked out and one person needed medical attention. Highly concentrated nitric acid can cause severe burns. Chemical reactions can result in toxic fumes or explosions. Infineon uses the substance to remove computer chips from housings. How the incident came about is being investigated. According to initial findings, the person concerned is fine.
