Netherlands wants to keep chip company ASML – economy

The Dutch government wants to prevent its flagship company ASML from moving abroad by spending billions on infrastructure. 2.5 billion euros will flow into housing, educational institutions, transport and the power grid in the ASML home region of Eindhoven, as Economy Minister Micky Adriaansens said. The project called “Operation Beethoven” is intended to help keep the internationally important chip industry supplier in the country. “In implementing these measures, the Cabinet assumes that ASML will continue to invest and maintain its legal, tax and actual headquarters in the Netherlands,” it said in a statement. ASML boss Peter Wennink had complained about the government’s plans to abolish tax breaks for skilled migrants. ASML also complained that the government had not invested adequately in improving the infrastructure of the booming technology hub Eindhoven.
