“Monster victory for BBB”, “historic victory”, plus pictures of people cheering as if they had turned the world upside down: This is how the Dutch media classify what happened on Wednesday evening in the elections in the country’s twelve provinces . The triumph of the peasant-citizen movement, which only emerged in 2019, was even greater than expected and, if not the world, then at least Dutch politics. Because the provinces decide on the composition of the upper house, which can block laws. Things are getting even more uncomfortable there for the governing coalition, which does not have a majority in the first chamber.
