Netherlands: Mark Rutte slipped away – Opinion

Something surprising has happened in the Netherlands, it may seem confusing from the outside. Why this sudden fall of the coalition? In addition to Mark Rutte’s right-wing liberals, the alliance consisted of left-liberals, Christian Democrats and the Christian Union, a small value party. A typical constellation in the politically fragmented country. These middle parties had found it difficult to get together at all, it had taken them 271 days to do so. In a year and a half they have not achieved much, but they have achieved something, despite the energy crisis and inflation. In terms of foreign policy, they pursued a refreshingly clear pro-Ukrainian course. When things got difficult, they pulled themselves together, nobody wanted to risk new elections. Well then?
