Successful production from Germany: The dark series “Liebes Kind” tops the global Netflix charts and even surpasses “One Piece”.

Only released on September 7th, the dark miniseries “Liebes Kind” based on the novel of the same name by Romy Hausmann has become a huge success worldwide on the streaming service Netflix. In the past two weeks – from September 4th to 10th and again from September 11th to 17th – the series by Isabel Kleefeld and Julian Pörksen topped the global Netflix charts for non-English language series productions.

“Dear Child” overtakes the anime success “One Piece”.

Particularly noteworthy: In the current week of the Netflix charts, “Liebes Kind” even has more so-called “viewers” or “views” than the live-action adaptation of the manga and anime “One Piece”, which had an international audience even before the series started could build a fan base. In the corresponding period from September 11th to 17th, “One Piece” achieved 10 million “Views” (in German: “Views”) from Netflix, while “Liebes Kind” received an incredible 15.4 million “Views”.

However, it is important to remember that “One Piece” was released on Netflix on August 31st, and “Liebes Kind” was only available a week later. In the second week of “One Piece’s” availability, which is more suitable for comparing the performance of the two series, the manga adaptation received 19 million “views”.

This is how Netflix measures audience popularity

The term “views” is a relatively new figure on the Netflix charts. Until June of this year, the only thing measured was how many absolute hours of a program subscribers to the streaming service watched within the first 28 days of its release.

However, this size is now divided by the total running time of a show or film, as the US industry magazine “Variety” writes. In addition, the measurement window has been extended from 28 to 91 days. Netflix calls the result of this calculation “views”.

In the case of the over 15 million “views” that “Liebes Kind” received in the week from September 11th to 17th, this number does not mean that over 15 million viewers actually watched the thriller series over the corresponding period have looked. Some subscribers may also have watched the show several times, which is also not reflected in the measurement.

Nevertheless, the above-mentioned purchase figures represent a gigantic success for German series production. In addition to the numbers mentioned, the six-part series “Liebes Kind” is also in the “Top 10” of the streaming service in 92 countries. In addition to Germany, the top position in the Netflix charts in the respective countries was also achieved in France, Italy and Denmark as well as in Mexico, Israel and Brazil worldwide.
