“You can’t talk rationally to my neighbor.” A sentence that Christine Bachmann hears again and again in one way or another. Bachmann is a voluntary arbitrator in Blieskastel, Saarland. People from one of the 15 districts, who have often been arguing with their neighbors for a long time, contact her. Because branches from the tree next door protrude onto their property. Because bushes grow taller and taller along the property line, obscuring the view. Because the driveway is always blocked with parked cars.
