Negotiations are pschitt, the strike of the garbage collectors towards a stalemate

In certain districts of Toulouse, the piling up of trash cans on the sidewalks is starting to pose serious hygiene problems. And this not to get better over the next few days. At the end of the meeting with the management of their service, the union representatives of the garbage collectors indicated that they had not obtained significant progress to put an end to the strike that they began on December 15.

“We had calculated that the end of the ‘finished party’ was equivalent to a loss of 67 days of leave per year. We asked for support for the arduousness up to half of these days. Before entering into negotiations, this Wednesday, the management proposed seven days of compensation. At the exit, it was nine days. And on the side of remuneration and compensation, we are also far from what we hoped, ”notes Nicolas Refutin of the FO union of Toulouse Métropole.

Symbolic actions?

This Thursday morning, when taking up service in the warehouses, the inter-union will submit to employees what management is advancing on the negotiating table. But the FO activist already knows that these proposals will be refused by the majority and that the strike is likely to harden in the days to come. “We can also carry out symbolic actions, blockades, we can imagine anything,” explains Nicolas Refutin for whom a large majority of garbage collectors are now following the strike movement.
