“Need to see how much budget we have”

There is still a big question mark behind Robert Lewandowski’s sporting future at FC Bayern. Those responsible in Munich recently emphasized that they would like to extend the contract with the Pole. According to club boss Oliver Kahn, however, this will not be an easy task. Now sports director Hasan Salihamidzic has also commented on the current situation surrounding the top scorer.

The 44-year-old made it clear again on “Sky90” that Bayern would like to extend the contract with the FIFA world footballer. Salihamidzic also confirmed that there have been no concrete negotiations so far, only loose talks. The Bosnian also revealed why the Munich team is taking so much time when it comes to extending the contract: “We really want to keep Lewandowski. He got a lot of appreciation from the club and returned it with sporting performance.”

“We have all the time in The World”

Salihamidzic also makes no secret of the fact that the extension naturally depends on Bayern’s financial possibilities: “He is our top earner in the club. First of all, we wanted to see how we would do in sport, how much budget we have, you have to give us credit for that. I’ve talked to Lewy a few times about the fact that FC Bayern also have to be a little more careful with their finances due to the pandemic. We still have to wait. He has a contract until 2023 and we have all the time in the world to talk to him about the contract. But we haven’t negotiated yet, but we will do it now.”
