Since March 16, 2023, 674 Paris City Hall cleaning agents have been requisitioned by the Police Prefecture to collect waste. The Prefecture of Police had asked the City for a list of 4,000 cleanliness agents to carry out staff requisitions and collect garbage. Nearly 10,000 tons of waste accumulated in the streets of Paris, following a strike by garbage collectors against the pension reform.
Necessary requisitions
According to the figures given by the Prefecture, in addition to the 674 agents, 11 companies under management or concessionaires were also requisitioned. 206 trucks were put into service, while four waste sorting centers were (temporarily) unblocked by the police. “These requisitions, necessary for the preservation of the health situation, have enabled the establishment of a minimum service, compatible with respect for the right to strike of agents”, announced the Prefecture. in a press release.
