Nearly 400 kg of cannabis seized near Grasse, five people arrested

The Grasse gendarmes arrested five people, one of whom was actively wanted for “attempted murder”, and seized nearly 400 kg of cannabis resin, the Grasse prosecutor’s office said on Thursday.

A preliminary investigation into drug trafficking had led to a house identified as a “deal point” in the town of La Roquette-sur-Siagne, located between Cannes and Grasse. In this house, the Grasse gendarmerie research brigade discovered on Tuesday 99 kg of cannabis resin and 24,000 euros. Another 281 kg were found in a nearby vehicle.

Suspects of Spanish and Colombian origin

Five “adult” people were arrested and placed in police custody, including one of Spanish nationality and another of Colombian nationality, both usually residing in Spain, detailed the prosecution. One of the five suspects had been wanted since April 2021 under a search warrant issued against him for “attempted murder” and an arrest warrant issued three weeks ago.

The five police custody have been extended and a presentation before an investigating judge is planned for Friday during the day. The prosecution specifies that the Grasse research brigade is continuing the investigation with the support of the Fréjus research section.
