Nearly 200 citations for curfew breaches

Despite the establishment of a curfew at Nantes-Atlantique airport between midnight and 6 a.m., many local residents complain about the persistence of night flights. Six months after the commissioning of this measure decided to reduce the noise exposure of the population, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) took stock, she says on his newsletteridentified by West France.

According to his count, 203 regulatory breaches have been noted since April, not counting “exemptions” and deviations that have occurred within a five-minute tolerance margin. It was in August and April that these irregularities were most numerous. But, from the spring, airlines had been summoned for a reminder of the rules.

Fine of up to 40,000 euros

Of the 203 irregular night flights recorded for six months, 189 have already been the subject of reports, reports the DGAC. The files were transmitted, as such, to Airport Nuisance Control Authority (Acnusa), which will study the disputes and issue any sanctions. Companies unable to justify unforeseen circumstances “beyond their control” (weather, air navigation, health, etc.) risk up to 40,000 euros in fines per dispute.

Moreover, even if it is poorly respected, the curfew does not seem useless since take-offs and landings between midnight and 6 a.m. “have been divided by six compared to 2018”, underlines the DGAC.
