Nearly 120 hectares were ravaged by flames in the town of Brando, located in Cap Corse, after a fire broke out on Saturday December 2. The fire is still in progress on Sunday morning despite the drop in the wind, indicates France Bleu RCFM.

Around thirty firefighters are still on site. On Saturday, there were more than 130 firefighters at the height of the fire with around twenty engines to fight the flames. Around sixty homes have been protected and are no longer threatened.

Thirteen fires start in Haute-Corse

The fire started under the Brando quarry, in an inaccessible location and the flames spread across 100 hectares of thick scrub in a few hours, driven by gusts of wind from the west of around 150 km/h.

According to the first leads, “the fall of an electrical cable could be the cause of this disaster” indicated a little earlier on the RCFM antenna Thierry Cholet, the first deputy mayor of Brando. Investigations will be carried out to find out the exact reasons for the incident.

There were 13 fires in Haute-Corse during the day. Some were treated quickly and had little impact. Others required heavier means to overcome it.
