Nearly 100,000 homes still without electricity in Brittany

Fifth day without light or heating. In Brittany, the consequences of the passage of storm Ciaran are still very palpable for many residents. Sunday evening, Enedis services announced that 97,000 homes were still without electricity. Blasted by gusts exceeding 200 km/h, Finistère is the most affected department with 57,000 homes affected, compared to 20,000 in Morbihan, 19,000 in Côtes-d’Armor and 1,000 in Ille-et-Vilaine. At the height of the disaster, 780,000 Breton homes were deprived of power.

Engaged in the field since Thursday, November 2, Enedis agents were deeply affected by the death of one of their own. Saturday, around 7 p.m., a technician from the Rapid Electricity Intervention Force (FIRE) died of electrocution while intervening in Pont-Aven. Aged 46, married and father of three children, this man from Gers came as reinforcements to Brittany, the region most affected by the passage of storm Ciaran. Interventions made complex by difficult weather conditions and the passage of storm Domingos.

This tragedy highlighted the hard work of the 3,400 Enedis agents mobilized in France. On social media, many residents expressed their gratitude to the technicians hired to restore electricity. The affected municipalities have set up hotlines at town halls to allow residents to get warm or charge their electronic devices.
