The condemnation of Hubert Seipel’s journalistic achievements at Norddeutscher Rundfunk could not have been clearer. “Films riddled with propaganda”, “Kremlin narratives”, “Putin positions” is how Gesine Dornblüth talks about Seipel’s work, the freelance journalist and former Moscow correspondent for Deutschlandradio was commissioned to write a report. “In his films and interviews, Hubert Seipel has adopted the positions of Putin and the Russian power elite without critically questioning them.” The films have become particularly sensitive because the Kremlin has used them extensively for self-reflection. “Seipel allowed himself to be abused or used.” That damaged the discourse.
