Nazi crimes: Poland’s government brings reparations into play – opinion

The German crimes from 1939 to 1945 are rightly unforgotten in Poland. But the fact that the nationalist government in Warsaw is now bringing reparations into play is based on a very transparent calculation.

The three-volume documentation now being presented in Warsaw contains a great deal worth remembering about the millions of murders and destruction committed by the German occupiers in Poland during the Second World War. German politicians who receive or receive the three volumes should treat the story of this suffering with respect. However, the three volumes are not a basis for alleged reparations worth billions – they are merely material in the inner-Polish struggle.
